ADOAA Announces Partnership with Netherlands Foundation

ADOAA (Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy Association) is excited to announce a new partnership with the Cure ADOA Foundation, an organization recently formed in the Netherlands.

The founder of the Cure ADOA Foundation, Dorien Blankenburgh, has an extremely personal relationship to the disease. She was diagnosed with ADOA in 1986. She created the Cure ADOA Foundation in an effort to find out more about the disease and potential cures, as well as spread awareness and her own personal story across the Netherlands.

Dorien has since expanded that vision to a global scale. She recently visited Cambridge University in England to speak with Dr. Patrick Yu-Wai-Man, an academic neuro ophthalmologist. Dr. Yu-Wai-Man is one of the world’s most prominent researchers in the field of mitochondrial eye diseases such as ADOA.

During their discussion, Dorien and Dr. Yu-Wai-Man touched on key topics such as the importance of getting accurate, reliable information about rare diseases. They also spoke about the role the mitochondria plays in ADOA and similar diseases, as well as Dr. Yu-Wai-Man’s hopes for the future of research into potential cures for ADOA.

The Cure ADOA Foundation has accomplished an impressive amount of work in a short amount of time, and we are excited to begin this important partnership. ADOAA and the Cure ADOA Foundation hope to collaborate our efforts in Europe, America, and across the globe, to fund medical research for a cure for ADOA.

We are eager to begin working together to fight against this disease.
