Read these tips from the ADOA Association to make sure our kiddos living with a visual impairment have a safe and fun time trick-or-treating!
Halloween can be a fun and festive night for many, but it’s quite difficult for children with low vision to navigate at night.
1. LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
Bring a flashlight, glow sticks, headlamp, etc… anything that will help light up their immediate surroundings.
2. GRAB A BUDDY
Have your child hold hands with you or a friend to help guide him/her while walking at night.
3. BRING A RIDER
Depending on how much distance you plan to cover during trick-or-treating, consider taking along a stroller or a wagon for your kiddo to travel in. Children with vision impairments put a lot of strain on their eyes causing them to work harder, which causes the child to become tired fairly easily.
In lieu of a bag of candy, please consider donating to ADOAA and join us in the fight against pediatric blindness. Thank you for your support!
