'Tis the Season of Giving – How to Donate Through AmazonSmile

The holiday season is the perfect time to reflect on what you're thankful for from the year behind you and give back to your community. We at the Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy Association (ADOAA) want to give our sincere thanks to everyone who donated to ADOAA throughout the year, came to our events, and participated in last month’s Giving Tuesday. It has been a great year for mitochondrial disease research so far, but we’re not done climbing towards our 2019 goal. And you can keep the giving going all season long with AmazonSmile!

In just a few easy steps, you can ensure that the Christmas shopping you do on Amazon has an even bigger impact on the world than the smiles it puts on your friends’ and family members’ faces. The AmazonSmile program totals the amount that you purchase through the AmazonSmile website each time you shop, and donates 0.5% to the charity of your choice. And there’s no extra cost for you! To sign up, start by visiting smile.amazon.com and log into your regular Amazon account.

On the homepage, you will be prompted to select the charity you wish to donate to. Type “Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy Association” into the search bar and click the yellow “Search” button on the right.

ADOAA will pop up on the next screen! Click the gray “Select” button next to the Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy Association listing to be taken to the confirmation page.

The last step is to check the confirmation box and start shopping! But make sure you read the final prompt to understand how the AmazonSmile program works. Whenever you want to shop on Amazon and support ADOAA, you must type in this unique URL: smile.amazon.com. It works through your regular Amazon account, but shopping on the normal amazon.com will not allow you to donate 0.5% of your purchase amount to your chosen charity. You must specifically be on smile.amazon.com.

Give your holiday shopping extra meaning and sign up for AmazonSmile today. It’s simple to use, and only takes a few seconds to choose your charity. At ADOAA, we’re always looking for creative ways to give back to our community and raise money for the treatment and cure of ADOA. Did you find this blog post helpful? Or do you want to get more involved in ADOAA? Please contact us anytime! We’d love to hear your story.
